Breed suitability and sizing
Suitable for many dog breeds, you can purchase this stylish dog coat in three body types (Standard, Long & Lean, Broad & Burly – see description for full information) and thirty-two sizes. The Great White North truly comes into its own for short-haired breeds where high insulation is desired.

Choosing your size
Measure your dog’s chest girth, neck girth, back length and weight. Then select the corresponding size bracket in the chest girth drop-down box. After which, all possible size matches will show in the standard and long & lean size boxes. Cross-reference your measurements with the information provided to select your size. Finally, please complete the final details to add your chosen size to the basket.
The Grey Great White North is our flagship winter dog coat. Out of all the dog coats we sell, the Great White North is the warmest and most protective against harsh winter weather. It’s durable, waterproof, windproof, soft and warm. Our black outer shell coat with red fleece gives you a high visibility coat that will keep your dog cosy whilst looking oh so cool.
We can say that the Great White North is a superior winter dog coat. It features a luxurious Canadian polar fleece lining with a streamlined design that allows freedom of movement during active play. The high-coverage belly panel and extended back length stops mud, slush and puddle water from penetrating your dog’s pelt allowing core body temperature to be maintained at a comfortable level.
Overall, this particular coat is an excellent choice for many breeds. It comes into its own for short-haired breeds such as Greyhounds, Vizslas and Ridgebacks. It is also very suitable for more delicate breeds such as Whippets and Italian Greyhounds. You can also use the coat with a head muff for additional head, neck and ear protection.
You can use the Great White North with your favourite harness and collar. This coat does not have a slit in the fabric for a D-Ring connection. Instead, place your dog’s harness over the top of the coat or attach your lead to a collar in the usual way.

Great White North sizing
The black fleece and grey outer shell Great White North is available in thirty-two sizes and three body types to ensure a perfect fit for every breed.
Standard sizes are designed for dogs with typical proportions and a back length similar to their height at the withers. Most dogs fall into this category. For example, Vizsla, Doberman, Weimaraner, Chihuahua, Jack Russel, Beagle, Labrador, Great Dane and a Boxer.
In comparison, the unique body shape of sighthounds inspires our Long & Lean sizing. These coats are ideal for dogs with narrow shoulders, a deep chest and a long body. For example, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Mini Dachshund, Greyhound, Saluki, Galgo and Poodle Mix.
Generally, a Long & Lean 19, 21 and 23 will fit a Whippet and a Long & Lean 24, 26, 29 and 31 fits larger Sighthounds.
Broad & Burly coats are specifically designed for breeds with very large necks, wide barrel chests and short backs. For example, French Bulldogs, English bulldogs and Mastiffs.
This guide is by no means definitive, and we recommend you measure your dog carefully before placing your order for Standard, Long & Lean or Broad and Burly sizes.
Caring for your Great White North
Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle. Wash with similar colours or on their own. Fasten the buckle/velcro before placing the product in the washing machine. Important: DO NOT use hot water, strong detergents, bleach or fabric softener. A fabric softener will prevent the fleece from retaining heat within the fleece fibres. Although Chilly Dogs do suggest using a dryer, we think it’s best, where possible, to air dry to benefit the environment.
If you need a dryer for a quick coat, turn around, fastener buckles and Velcro. Select a cool setting for 10 minutes, then hang using the hanging loop or lay flat to dry. For sweaters and soakers, please lay them out after the dryer cycle. Set the dryer on the cool setting for 10 minutes, then lay flat to dry (DO NOT HANG). Please do not use any heat as it will damage the coat.
