Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Doggy Boho Frequently Asked Questions area. If your query or question is not answered here, you are welcome to contact us for further help.

Placing orders during busy periods such as the run up to Christmas, can sometimes be challenging, especially as many of our collars and leads are hand made to order. Also, some of our products are purchased from abroad. Specifically, with regards to Christmas orders, our cut-off date will be shown here to ensure you can place orders in good time.

We will update our website from international orders in due course. Although we hold some popular sizes in stock of Chilly Dogs coats and the Freedom No Pull Harness, these items sell out. Although not a guarantee, we suggest you place your order for these items no later than the end of November for Christmas Delivery to avoid disappointment.

All our items are shipped via Royal Mail using the latest postal charges for the UK and Abroad, with a small addition for P&P. Our postage cost is based on the value of your shopping cart and, in the main, for UK and E.U parcels this seems a fair way to proceed.

However, with Estimated International (R.O.W) packages this can be a little more tricky so, once your order is shipped, and we feel it appropriate, we will make a fair refund via the original means of payment.

First of all, we are sorry your item isn’t as expected but please don’t worry. We are happy to work with you to ensure an alternative solution. If you contact us within seven days of receiving your order and if the item is in perfect condition, we are happy to exchange, refund or offer a voucher.  Please use our contact form to start the returns process by adding your order number, stating the reason for the return and if you would like an exchange, voucher, or refund.

Even if you don’t have a PayPal account you should be able to pay with a credit card. Follow the PayPal steps and it will eventually ask you if you would like to pay via PayPal or credit card.

Alternatively, you can make a Bank Transfer or send a cheque. Currently, we are unable to accept payment over the telephone. These details are found under ‘Delivery and Payment’ in our help section but please call us should you need further help.

If you don’t see exactly what you need, don’t worry; we offer a custom-made service to ensure your dog is as individual as you are. If you have a favourite piece of fabric or a desire for a particular design, we can turn your ideas into reality. Our custom-made service does incur a small additional cost but in return, you will receive a product that’s tailor-made for you.

When deciding on the right size collar for your dog, please remember that many of our collars are buckle free and can only be placed over your dog’s head.

Therefore you need to take into account the circumference of the largest part of your dogs head. This is not an issue for sighthounds as their heads are often smaller than their necks, but we recommend you follow the measuring guide for other breeds.

To measure your dog for a Martingale Collar, use a soft tape measure or a piece of string and take the measurements at points A, B, and C in the drawing below. Choose the size that fits within this range to ensure that your collar fits perfectly.

Where to Measure

What size collar should I order by Doggy Boho

A) This point needs to adjust to the largest part of the dog’s head so that the collar can be easily placed into the collar position (C).

B) This shows the position of the martingale when under pressure to restrain.

C) The neck size where the collar is relaxed.

The rule of thumb is larger dogs over 40lbs (such as a Great Dane, Labrador, Pointer, Husky, Bull Dog, greyhound, Weimaraner, Standard Poodle, German Shepherd etc.) would wear the 1″ wide webbing harness. Whilst dogs weighing under 40lbs (such as a Jack Russell, Pug, Corgi, Whippet, Border Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Beagle etc.) would wear the narrower 5/8″ webbing. Both widths are equally as strong, but the dog’s weight determines the suitability of the width. Please get in touch with us or see the product detail for further guidance for any other concerns.

We are always looking out for new fabrics and designs and aim to create seasonal collections so you and your hound can be sure of something wonderful throughout the year.  With regular updates through our blog, social media channels and our newsletter, there’s no reason why you can’t be ahead of the crowd and on-trend.

What an exciting adventure you are about to embark upon, and well done for taking on the challenge of a rescue. It is important to ensure they have everything they need to make the transition into a loving home. Hopefully, the rescue centre will provide you with the basics, but as your new friend settles in and their personality is revealed, you with have hours of fun discovering the world of pet accessories.

A collar and lead are essential. Depending on the time of year and the dog breed, a coat may be sensible. If the dog appears nervous, you may find a harness that offers extra security. A toy and a warm bed will make them feel secure. Above all, they need your patience, love, and reassurance. Please do not hesitate to contact us for specific advice relating to the needs of your new best friend. We are happy to help.

Wear and tear will be different depending on the collar/lead and your hound. If you have a heavy scratcher, mud roller, or rough player, your collar will begin to show normal wear and tear faster than a hound that snoozes all day.

The wear and tear on your collar will be significantly reduced if you have more than one collar and alternate them regularly. Like us and our Sunday best, it is a good idea to have an everyday collar to wear around the home, reserving your stepping out collar for special walks and occasions. Imagine, you wouldn’t dress up to do the gardening, so neither should your hound!

Our velvet is a great solution for everyday wear (yes velvet). Along with our tweed, deckchair stripes and some of the more hardwearing Liberty designs.

The luxury Swiss velvet, woven jacquard Ribbons and cotton fabrics can be placed in a laundry bag and machine wash. Please ensure a cool temperature and a delicate wash. Alternatively, these collars/leads can be washed gently by hand using a suitable hand wash detergent. Do not tumble dry but allow to air dry naturally, and your collar is good as new!

Tweed and Tartan collars/leads should be gently wiped clean with a lightly dampened cloth. Mud should be allowed to dry then gently removed. For stubborn stains, spot clean with a reputable product and always read the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Woollen Tweed is a tough fabric that is moisture resistant because it is closely woven. We cannot recommend washing or submerging your tweed or Tartan collar/lead in water. However, we have customers who have done so with fantastic results. We also hand wash our collars and are always happy with the result.

Some brocades and silk-blend fabrics are more robust than others. These can be hand washed using a mild detergent suitable for wool and silks blends. Other more delicate fabrics can be spot cleaned using a reputable product. When purchasing these beautiful but delicate textiles, we suggest you are realistic. Treat them as you would any special outfit and reserve them for very special occasions. For further advice on individual collars, please contact us via our contact form

Firstly, always inspect your collar. Our collars and leads are made to the highest possible standards, with safety and functionality a priority above beauty and aesthetic design. Please check your hound’s collar/lead frequently for signs of damage. It would be best if you determined the condition of your collar/lead before using it. Please check the stitching, especially around hardware and seams, as it is very easy for your hound to damage their collar in everyday situations. You must assume full responsibility to ensure your collar is suitable for your hound and fit for its purpose.
